Select representative arid, irrigated and relatively humid settings. Note rainfall reliability, soil texture/depth, irrigation, major kharif/rabi crops and constraints. Distinguish a crop list from a proven crop sequence: two crops named for a zone do not establish that all farms grow them in rotation.

A profitable irrigated sequence may be unsuitable in a rainfed field. Use local recommendations for actual sowing dates and varieties.
