Agricultural extension is an educational and facilitative process supporting informed decisions in farming and associated rural livelihoods. Its scope includes production, resource management, post-harvest handling, marketing, household decisions, youth development and collective action. It does not mean distributing inputs alone. Technical suitability, economic feasibility, social access and environmental consequences should be considered together.

कृषि प्रसार खेती और संबंधित ग्रामीण आजीविका में सूचित निर्णय का शैक्षिक तथा सुविधाकारी कार्य है। इसका क्षेत्र उत्पादन, संसाधन प्रबंधन, कटाई-पश्चात कार्य, विपणन, घरेलू निर्णय, युवा विकास और सामूहिक कार्रवाई है। केवल आदान बाँटना प्रसार नहीं। तकनीकी उपयुक्तता, आर्थिक व्यवहार्यता, सामाजिक पहुँच और पर्यावरणीय प्रभाव साथ समझें।

Broad objectives concern better livelihoods, capabilities and well-being. Specific objectives state what learners should know, feel or do under stated conditions. For example, participants may learn to compare two marketing options using costs and returns. Importance lies in connecting knowledge with local problems, developing skills, reducing information gaps, supporting organisations and communicating farmer feedback to specialists. No educational programme guarantees a particular income increase.

व्यापक उद्देश्य आजीविका, क्षमता और जीवन-स्तर सुधार से जुड़े हैं। विशिष्ट उद्देश्य बताते हैं कि निश्चित परिस्थिति में विद्यार्थी क्या जाने, महसूस करे या कर सके। जैसे लागत-प्राप्ति से दो विपणन विकल्पों की तुलना करना। प्रसार ज्ञान को स्थानीय समस्या से जोड़ता, कौशल बढ़ाता, सूचना-अंतर घटाता, संगठन सहयोग और किसान प्रतिक्रिया विशेषज्ञ तक पहुँचाता है। शिक्षा से निश्चित आय वृद्धि की गारंटी नहीं होती।

A useful cycle is: study the situation, identify needs with people, agree on objectives, select learning activities, implement, assess results and reconsider the situation. Feedback links every stage. Planning is participatory; the extension worker contributes technical and facilitation skills while farmers contribute experience, priorities and assessment of feasibility. Replanning follows evidence, not simply the next calendar year.

उपयोगी चक्र है: परिस्थिति अध्ययन, लोगों के साथ जरूरत पहचान, उद्देश्य सहमति, शिक्षण गतिविधि चयन, क्रियान्वयन, परिणाम आकलन और पुनर्विचार। प्रतिक्रिया हर चरण जोड़ती है। प्रसारक तकनीकी और सुविधाकारी कौशल तथा किसान अनुभव, प्राथमिकता और व्यवहार्यता की समझ देते हैं। पुनर्नियोजन प्रमाण से हो, केवल नया वर्ष आने से नहीं।

Work from felt needs and interests; respect culture without endorsing exclusion; learn by doing; begin at the learner’s level; involve local leadership and the family; cooperate with relevant agencies; use adaptable methods; and evaluate progress. Participation must include less visible groups. ‘Helping people help themselves’ means developing agency and skills, not abandoning people without support.

अनुभूत जरूरत और रुचि से काम करें, बहिष्करण स्वीकारे बिना संस्कृति का सम्मान, करके सीखना, विद्यार्थी के स्तर से शुरुआत, स्थानीय नेतृत्व और परिवार की भागीदारी, संस्थागत सहयोग, लचीली विधि और मूल्यांकन अपनाएँ। कम दिखाई देने वाले समूहों को भी शामिल करें। ‘स्वयं सहायता में सहायता’ का अर्थ क्षमता और निर्णय शक्ति बढ़ाना है, लोगों को अकेला छोड़ना नहीं।
