Select containers for crop,root development,duration and handling. Compare size,drainage holes,stability,material and sanitation. A large pot is not always better if it remains waterlogged. Reused containers require appropriate cleaning; avoid materials contaminated with unknown chemicals.

A useful potting medium balances water retention,aeration,drainage,structure and appropriate nutrient/pH conditions. Components may include suitable soil,compost,cocopeat,sand or other materials depending on crop and system. No universal1:1:1 mixture fits every nursery. Check maturity,salinity and contamination; fine sand and heavy soil can reduce aeration.

Prepare the approved medium,keep drainage functional and position roots without severe bending. Maintain the crop-appropriate planting depth and label the plant. Repot when root condition,growth and container limitation justify it; inspect the root ball and avoid unnecessary damage. Water appropriately and provide suitable recovery conditions.
