Grafting joins a scion shoot to a rootstock; budding uses a bud-bearing piece. Appropriate cambial contact,secure union,desiccation prevention and aftercare matter. Methods such as veneer,cleft,T-budding or patch budding are selected by crop and material condition. Unequal diameters may require alignment on one side rather than matching outer bark only.

Cuttings root after detachment; layers form roots while still connected to the parent. Air-layering and ground-layering differ in position and support. Rooting response depends on tissue maturity,species,season,media and environment. Any regulator use must follow a verified supervised protocol rather than a generic dose.

Remove stock shoots where appropriate and gradually harden successful material. Include a labelled sketch of the union or rooting site.
