Prepare a scaled orchard plan using instructor-provided field dimensions. Mark north, boundaries, slope, roads, drains and service areas before tree positions. Select spacing for the stated crop/rootstock system; this exercise does not recommend one spacing for all fruit trees.

Establish a baseline and right angles using survey tools under guidance, mark centres and check diagonals where suitable. Pit dimensions, refilling and amendments depend on soil and crop. Keep useful topsoil separate where instructed, avoid waterlogged pits and verify planting height and graft-union position. Do not supply universal pesticide or fertilizer pit mixtures.
