INM combines soil nutrient reserves, fertilizers, organic resources and useful biological processes to meet crop demand while maintaining soil health and limiting losses. Integrated means coordinated, need-based use, not equal quantities of every source. It is distinct from simply reducing fertilizer or calling every organic input a complete replacement.

Specific rates and splits depend on crop and location, so examples in these notes are arithmetic exercises rather than field prescriptions.
